IKI Indonesia
The International Climate Initiative (IKI) is an important part of the German government’s international climate finance commitment since 2008 that has been contributing to the protection of the climate and biodiversity by fulfilling its international obligations within the international community.
Within the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV), and the Federal Foreign Office (AA) are responsible for the International Climate Initiative. All three ministries contribute their respective expertise to the design and strategic direction of the funding programme, while the Ministry for Economic Affairs is responsible for the overall coordination. IKI activities are carried out in close consultation with the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and are aligned with the Strategy on Climate Foreign Policy of the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany.
As part of the IKI’s priority countries, Indonesia hosts 47 IKI projects, comprising 13 bilateral, 11 regional, and 23 global projects (as of June 2024). GIZ Indonesia and ASEAN, through the Climate and Biodiversity Hub Indonesia, performs the interface function as the ‘IKI Hub.’ This role involves connecting all IKI projects and implementing partners in Indonesia to facilitate the exchange of lessons learned, experiences, and knowledge through a series of activities and knowledge products, such as IKI networking workshops, special/thematic topic discussions, and the IKI newsletter.
